Subaru Forester vs Honda CR-V: Performance

  • The Forester lineup keeps things simple with a 2.5 SUBARU BOXER® engine that delivers 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. Honda makes things a little bit more difficult to manage as it provides two engine options: a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder and a turbocharged engine that will cost you a bit more.
  • For the outdoors type, the Subaru Forester is the perfect companion. It comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive which ensures improved traction control in the worst conditions. X-MODE® is also available for most of the lineup and it optimizes your SUV's performance when the road conditions turn to mud, gravel or stone. The CR-V does not offer all-wheel drive standard nor does it offer the capability of the X-MODE® feature.
  • The Honda CR-V does initially offer a better fuel economy but only with its turbocharged engine which will cost you more than the Subaru model will. The Honda SUV also achieves slightly higher numbers while only being front-wheel drive while the Subaru model is standard with all-wheel drive and better numbers.

Subaru Forester vs Honda CR-V: Design

  • While the Forester is a bit longer than the CR-V, the Honda SUV is wider and not as maneuverable as the Subaru model. That makes parking in those tight parking spots even easier.
  • With the Subaru Forester lineup, you'll find LED headlights that are standard. You can also upgrade to LED Steering Responsive Headlights which turn with the twists of the road to keep the way ahead well-lit. Honda does offer LED headlights but doesn't offer Steering Responsive options.
  • Looking for a roomy interior that can seat five passengers with ease? The Subaru Forester provides 111.9 cubic feet of space while the Honda CR-V only manages a maximum of 105.9 cubic feet.
  • Whether you need space for grocery supplies or you want to take a camping trip, the Forester offers up to 76.1 cubic feet of storage area. Honda can't match this amount and only offers a total of 75.8 cubic feet.
  • When the cool mornings take you by surprise, both vehicles offer automatic climate control and heated front seats to help keep things cozy. However, if you're back seat passengers also want to stay warm, you'll want to go with the Forester as the CR-V doesn't offer this feature.

Subaru Forester vs Honda CR-V: Technology

  • Subaru starts you off with the STARLINK® Multimedia Plus infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen and smartphone integration. Honda requires you to upgrade to the more expensive EX trim level to get a seven-inch touchscreen and access to Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™. Subaru excels with an eight-inch touchscreen, unmatched by anything the CR-V can offer.
  • Want to stay connected while on the go? The Subaru Forester offers a 4G LTE Wi-FI® hotspot to help you do just that; the Honda CR-V does not.

Subaru Forester vs Honda CR-V: Safety

  • Both SUVs offer a stellar package of driver assistance features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane-Keep Assist and Pre-Collision Braking systems to help keep an extra pair of eyes on the road at all times. However, you can only find these available on the EX trim and up for the Honda model while Subaru includes many of the features on its base level.
